We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Ophthalmic Clinic Scribe to join our team at California Retina Consultants. As a key member of our clinical staff, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our ophthalmology clinic.
Responsibilities- Documentation and Charting: Accurately summarize and document physician verbalizations during examinations, including charting, documenting additions to the chief complaint, and closing patient charts in a timely manner.
- Coding and Compliance: Ensure accurate ICD10 and CPT coding in patient charts, maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Clinical Support: Observe patients and physicians, assisting as needed during exams, providing additional medications and instruments, and following directions in medical emergencies.
- Patient Communication: Maintain awareness of patient verbal and non-verbal communication, repeating information, providing written instructions, and handing out patient education materials as necessary.
- Exam Room Preparation: Clean and prepare exam rooms before each clinic session, adhering to physician preferences for necessary drops, medications, instruments, forms, and educational materials.
- Technical Skills: Perform OCT, OCT-A, Fundus Photography, and Microperimetry, and possess basic knowledge and skills to perform B-Scans when necessary.
- Practice Management: Utilize practice management system to schedule new and existing patients, view scheduled appointments and insurance information, and print fee tickets and patient demographics.
- Amendments and Updates: Accurately document amendments to patient charts according to practice protocols.
- Patient Flow: Maintain patient flow, confirming insurance authorization prior to treatment and ensuring proper follow-up appointments are communicated to the front desk.
- Support to Clinic: Provide support to the clinic by helping execute Ophthalmic Technician duties as needed.
- Communication and Collaboration: Facilitate communication between physicians and other staff members to minimize clinic flow disruptions.
- On-Call Duties: Perform on-call duties with assigned physicians after hours and on weekends.
- Education: High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Experience: 2 years of medical scribe experience, preferably in ophthalmology.
- Skills: Computer proficiency, effective oral and written communication, and ability to travel to nearby clinics for occasional support.
