Ophthalmic Clinic Scribe Job Description

At California Retina Consultants, we are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Ophthalmic Clinic Scribe to join our team. As an Ophthalmic Clinic Scribe, you will play a vital role in assisting our industry-leading physicians with patient exams and emergency procedures. Your primary responsibility will be to accurately document and summarize the physician's verbalizations during examinations, including charting, documenting additions to the chief complaint, and recommending treatment. You will also be responsible for observing patients and physicians, assisting with exams, and maintaining awareness of patient communication. Additionally, you will be expected to perform OCT, OCT-A, Fundus Photography, and Microperimetry, and possess basic knowledge and skills to perform B-Scans when necessary. Responsibilities:
  • Accurately document and summarize physician verbalizations during examinations
  • Chart and document additions to the chief complaint
  • Recommend treatment and justify decisions
  • Observe patients and physicians during exams
  • Assist with exams and maintain awareness of patient communication
  • Perform OCT, OCT-A, Fundus Photography, and Microperimetry
  • Possess basic knowledge and skills to perform B-Scans when necessary
  • Maintain patient flow and confirm insurance authorization prior to treatment
  • Provide support to the clinic and assist with Ophthalmic Technician duties as needed
  • Alert physicians to patient-related forms that need completion
  • Guide patients to the front desk and ensure proper follow-up appointments are communicated
  • Understand and utilize drug inventory system
  • Evaluate examination room conditions to ensure patient safety
  • Notify physicians of changes to the daily schedule
  • Facilitate communication between physicians and staff members
  • Perform on-call duties with assigned physicians

Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2 years of medical scribe experience
  • Experience in Ophthalmology
  • Computer proficiency
  • Effective oral and written communication
  • Ability to travel to nearby clinics for occasional support
