Job Summary

The Physical Therapist Assistant plays a vital role in the healthcare team, working under the supervision of a physical therapist to conduct patient assessments, testing, and therapy using standard physical therapy modalities. This position is responsible for restoring function, relieving pain, and preventing disability.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administers physical therapy interventions as planned and directed by the Physical Therapist to facilitate quality patient care.
  • Applies therapeutic methods appropriately and instructs patients on the use of modalities.
  • Assists patients with mobility, including bed mobility, transfers, and gait, while utilizing modalities correctly.
  • Develops and documents effective home exercise programs and supplemental instructional programs as needed.
  • Prepares comprehensive and concise assessments and documentation of patient treatment and progress.
  • Communicates with the Physical Therapist regarding patient progress and need for goal modification.
  • Submits accurate charges in a timely manner and supervises physical therapy aides and students as assigned.
Requirements
  • Must be physically capable of prolonged standing, moving, pushing, and holding.
  • Good communication skills, both verbally and in writing, are essential.
  • Good problem-solving skills and the ability to maintain confidentiality regarding patient information are required.
  • Must have the ability to relate professionally and positively with patients, families, and other employees at all levels.

Qualifications
  • Associate's degree in Physical Therapy Assistant program.
  • Less than 1 year of experience in a physical therapy setting.
  • Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) certification and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification are required.
