Job Title: Custodial Worker I - Housing Operations

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Custodial Worker I to join our team in Housing Operations. As a Custodial Worker I, you will be responsible for performing routine cleaning and housekeeping duties in university buildings, ensuring a clean and safe environment for students, faculty, and staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Sweep, mop, scrub, strip, and polish baseboards, floors, and stairs.
  • Sweep, vacuum, and clean rugs and carpets.
  • Dust or wash furniture.
  • Carry out and dispose of trash.
  • Clean restroom fixtures, walls, and floors.
  • Clean windows and door glass.
  • Wash blackboards and water fountains.
  • Check and order supplies.
  • May act as Leadperson at special times.
  • Perform a variety of routine custodial and cleaning tasks as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Must possess ability to read and write.
  • Physical ability to perform a variety of routine manual tasks in the care, cleaning, and general maintenance of buildings and equipment.
  • Should possess some knowledge of materials, methods, and equipment used in such work.
  • Ability to follow simple oral and written instructions from supervisors.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with fellow employees.
  • Ability to supervise the work of others when needed.

Working Conditions:

This position requires the ability to work long hours while standing and to withstand the physical strain of cleaning work. Physical ability to perform a variety of routine manual tasks in the care, cleaning, and general maintenance of buildings and equipment.

Benefits:

This position is eligible for participation in the Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS) retirement plan, subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
