As a Safety Engineering Specialist within the Department of Defense, your responsibilities will encompass a variety of critical tasks aimed at ensuring the safety and reliability of defense systems.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Act as a subject matter expert in system safety, focusing on hazard identification, risk mitigation, and safety requirement management.
2. Develop and implement safety programs to align with Department of Defense and Agency safety standards, ensuring the design safety of products delivered to military personnel.
3. Identify potential hazards that could affect end users and communicate these risks to senior leadership within the Missile Defense Agency.
4. Establish new software safety requirements and review software development processes for compliance with safety standards.
5. Lead program-level System Safety Working Group meetings to monitor software development and testing activities.
6. Apply system and software safety engineering expertise to support the development of software requirements, architecture, design, and testing activities.
7. Review risk assessments and recommend actions prior to the acceptance of residual safety risks.
8. Process safety waivers as necessary to maintain compliance with safety regulations.
To qualify for this position, candidates must possess:
1. A bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited institution.
2. Specialized experience equivalent to the NH-03/GS-13 level in the Federal service, demonstrating expertise in safety engineering and combat system design.
3. Knowledge of software safety requirements and experience in providing requirement analysis.
4. The ability to obtain and maintain a Non-Critical Sensitive (Secret) Security Clearance.Work Environment:
This position is eligible for telework and requires occasional travel. The work schedule is full-time, and candidates must meet specific employment conditions, including registration for Selective Service for males born after a certain date.
