Position Overview

Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Care Provider, the Practical Nurse delivers direct patient care following established protocols. This role involves assisting RNs and Care Providers with various procedures, medication administration, phlebotomy, and limited laboratory tasks. Continuous assessment of patients' physical and psychological conditions is essential throughout their care journey. Accurate documentation of patients' medical statuses is required during their treatment course. The nursing staff in Correctional Care provides clinical services in environments that present a higher level of clinical acuity and environmental challenges compared to traditional inpatient and outpatient settings. The facilities operate under stringent security measures, which influence daily operations, including personal safety and clinical procedures. Skills in environmental awareness, critical thinking, and decisive decision-making are crucial in this specialized nursing environment.

Key Responsibilities :
Collaborate with the RN to implement care plans based on prioritized patient needs. (10%) Coordinate with the RN to deliver care aligned with patient priorities. (10%) Maintain a comprehensive nursing practice that encompasses care for infants, children, and adults. (10%) Provide preventive, emergent, and crisis response care, including triage and behavioral health skills. (10%) Obtain and interpret vital signs, reporting any abnormal findings to the RN or provider. (10%) Ensure safe medication delivery. (5%) Facilitate the safe collection and processing of laboratory specimens and blood samples as directed. (5%) Execute specialized tasks as assigned by the RN or care provider, such as EKGs and Foley insertions. (5%) Document daily goals and care plans accurately. (5%) Adhere to the organization's principles of clinical practice and stakeholder engagement. (5%) Gather clinical data to support the Plan of Care in collaboration with the RN. (5%) Conduct chart audits to enhance quality improvement efforts. (5%) Communicate changes in patient or family conditions to the RN and assist in updating care plans. (5%) Qualifications :
High School Diploma or GED, along with completion of a nursing education program that meets the licensing criteria for Licensed Practical Nurses in Colorado. Experience :
Preferred experience in Correctional Care of less than one year. Licenses Required :
Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification from the American Heart Association. Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license from the Colorado State Licensing Board. Skills and Competencies :
Strong interpersonal communication skills for effective interaction with healthcare staff and diverse patient populations. Ability to assist patients with personal hygiene needs. Capability to transport patients, specimens, and supplies as necessary. Knowledge of IV administration and monitoring. Basic typing skills are essential. Familiarity with appropriate charting procedures is preferred.
