Position Overview:

We are in search of candidates who are eager to contribute to the firm's management team, with a focus on client satisfaction, continuous improvement, innovation, collaboration, and talent development.

The Controller will oversee our client intake process (including conflicts and fee committee approvals), manage the revenue cycle (billing and accounts receivable), supervise the expense cycle (payroll and accounts payable), and handle treasury functions (cash and debt management, escrow account management) along with general accounting responsibilities (G/L accounting, month-end close, and compliance reporting). This role requires a highly organized individual who can work collaboratively, is committed to quality and customer service, and can effectively prioritize tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and mentor a team of six Accounting Department staff, fostering leadership and training within the department.
  • Establish and uphold necessary internal financial and operational controls.
  • Maintain accurate books and records using the income tax basis of accounting.
  • Ensure the monthly closing process is executed accurately and within the designated timeframe.
  • Prepare monthly account reconciliations.
  • Manage Member draw schedules, distribution worksheets, and review Member compensation.
  • Oversee compliance reviews, attestations, and audits conducted by financial institutions, regulatory bodies, and clients.
  • Administer the firm's trust and escrow account activities.
  • Enhance the management of firm banking and financial institution relationships.
  • Build strong, cross-functional relationships to support the operational needs of the firm.

Collaborate closely with the Executive Director and Director of Finance to support the firm's financial reporting, budgeting, and financial analysis initiatives, while ensuring the integrity of the firm's financial systems.



Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or a related field is required.
  • CPA certification is mandatory.
  • MBA is preferred.
  • Experience in a law firm setting is essential.
  • Hands-on experience in optimizing financial, accounting, and reporting systems is required, with preference for experience with Aderant.
  • A minimum of eight years of accounting operations management experience is necessary.
  • Proven ability to strengthen strategic relationships with clients, service providers, partners, and employees.
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, and collaboration skills are essential. The ideal candidate will be a team player with excellent diplomacy and influence.
  • The candidate should be prepared to contribute to ongoing process automation and improvement initiatives.
  • Willingness to engage in certain day-to-day accounting operations is expected.
