Position Overview

We are currently seeking a seasoned Lead Cost Estimator / Quantity Surveyor to deliver estimating, benchmarking, and commercial management services for a significant data center construction initiative for a global technology client, located in Saint George, SC.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Cultivate and maintain essential relationships with clients, stakeholders, and fellow consultants.
  • Formulate cost plans and project capital estimates throughout the design phase, providing updated cost plans at critical design milestones.
  • Compile cost reports and estimate packages, regularly presenting findings to stakeholders.
  • Offer commercial insights during design evaluations and contribute to value engineering discussions.
  • Oversee cost verification and conduct valuations on larger projects, ensuring timely and precise cost checking and valuation processes.
  • Deliver estimating and cost planning services, culminating in the presentation of the final cost plan to clients, general contractors, and project teams.
  • Assess contractor and subcontractor pricing, leading negotiations to secure fair contract prices on behalf of the client.
  • Monitor margin levels and monthly fee/resource forecasts across all commissions.
  • Direct the commercial review of competitive bidding processes for major trades.
  • Integrate benchmarking to ensure accurate data collection.
  • Engage with general contractors and owner project managers to gather status updates for cost estimate revisions.
  • Prepare comprehensive feedback on general contractor submissions, including executive summaries, and coordinate all sources of cost information for discussions.
  • Inform and prioritize engineering decisions based on cost implications.
  • Work independently to address scheduling challenges effectively.
  • Ensure that valuable insights and learnings from each commission are documented in internal databases and shared across the organization.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance internal systems and workflows.
  • Manage financial aspects by utilizing provided tools to track ongoing margin levels and monthly fee/resource forecasts for each commission.
  • Collaborate with the design services team and general contractors in developing accurate cost estimates.
  • Reconcile changes during the planning phase and assist general contractors in maintaining accurate data.
  • Uphold quality standards and participate in ISO audits to ensure compliance.
  • Effectively manage line responsibilities.
  • Identify and pursue business development opportunities with both existing and potential clients, including cross-selling initiatives.
  • Lead proposals for new projects or variations on current assignments.

Required Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in estimating, particularly within mission-critical, pharmaceutical, industrial, or life sciences sectors.
  • Strong preference for candidates with data center construction experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop estimates throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Proficient in reviewing Mechanical and/or Electrical Subcontract packages and buyout processes.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical field, or equivalent field-related experience.
  • Exceptional communication skills with a strong client-facing aptitude.
  • Technical understanding of construction industry principles, including value management and value engineering.
  • Excellent stakeholder management abilities, with the capacity to tailor messaging to diverse audiences.
