The Career Specialist: Equity Partnerships and Programming is a vital role at Smith College, aimed at fostering diverse student engagement in career education programming. This two-year fixed-term position involves cultivating partnerships with campus unity organizations, first-generation, low-income, and DACA/undocumented student groups, as well as collaborating with staff to ensure equitable support for students.

The ideal candidate will possess strong career education skills, ability to understand diverse students' needs, and experience in inclusive program design and implementation. Key responsibilities include:

  • Building and maintaining relationships with unity organizations to identify and implement career exploration opportunities and career mobility initiatives.
  • Collaborating with the Office of Multicultural Affairs, the Office of Equity and Inclusion, and other relevant offices to promote and co-create programming that enhances student access and participation in career development workshops, alum panels, and events.
  • Partnering with the Offices of Institutional Research and Equity and Inclusion to develop strategies for scaled engagement of first-generation and/or low-income (FGLI) students, targeting 100% of FGLI student engagement in at least one Lazarus Center workshop or advising session.
  • Leading orientation programming and First Year Experience sessions.
  • Conducting regular tabling and outreach activities across campus to ensure visibility and engage students outside of the Lazarus Center.

The Career Specialist will advise students on career exploration, job searching, and strengths/values identification, while educating them about best practices in networking/social capital development. Additionally, they will participate in professional development opportunities and receive training on the Career Launch curriculum.

In terms of data and team support, the Career Specialist will enter data and support survey collection to analyze equity gaps in career engagement and learning outcomes. They will also drive analysis of equity and access gaps, supporting the team by filling in advising and/or programming gaps and taking direction on evolving strategic priorities.

This role requires a self-directed, outcome-oriented individual with excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. The estimated salary for this position is $70,000 per year.
