POSITION SUMMARY:
This role is integral to the YMCA, a prominent nonprofit organization devoted to community enhancement through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Challenge Course Leadership Facilitator is responsible for delivering outstanding leadership, customer service, and experiential education for a variety of Challenge Course participants. This position involves facilitating group activities while ensuring a safe environment, assessing group dynamics, offering tailored programming, and effectively presenting activities to meet group objectives.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead groups participating in educational activities on the Challenge Course, including the main camp area and the rock wall, with occasional off-site engagements.
- Ensure participant safety and group management by being vigilant about environmental risks, weather conditions, and other safety concerns.
- Exhibit proficiency in climbing and safety practices at heights up to 60 feet, including team belaying, knot tying, and proper harness and helmet fitting.
- Maintain and care for all Challenge Course equipment, including daily inspections and logging of equipment usage.
- Identify and report any equipment maintenance issues, safety hazards, or required repairs to the appropriate personnel.
- Ensure that all user groups complete necessary documentation and are briefed on the nature of the activities and associated risks prior to participation.
- Adhere to YMCA policies and procedures, ensuring confidentiality and security of customer information.
- Demonstrate the YMCA's mission and values through interactions with staff, members, and the public, embodying the principles of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. with a minimum of six months of experience in outdoor recreation, customer service, or camp settings.
- ACCT Level 1 or 2 certification or successful completion of the Camp Reed Specific Challenge Course Training.
- At least six months of customer service experience is required; camp experience is preferred.
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Familiarity with the use, maintenance, and repair of technical equipment related to challenge course operations.
- Completion of required YMCA training upon hiring.
- Able to cultivate authentic relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- This role requires physical capabilities that may be necessary to perform essential functions. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.
- Regular outdoor work, navigating uneven terrain, and the ability to belay participants are essential.
- Climbing ladders and maintaining a harness for extended periods is frequently required.
- Ability to lift and move heavy objects, up to 50 pounds, is necessary.
- Effective communication skills, both oral and written, are crucial.
- Frequent use of computers and mobile devices is expected.
- Physical endurance for prolonged periods of strenuous activity is often required.
- Occasional work in adverse weather conditions may be necessary, with the ability to assess safety during extreme weather.
- Vision capabilities must include close and distance vision, with the ability to adjust focus.
- Noise levels in the work environment are typically moderate.

COMPENSATION: $16.28-$19.75/hr
