Job Summary:

The Staff Psychotherapist provides direct clinical services to eligible students, including clinical assessment, short-term individual and group therapy, and crisis intervention. This role is committed to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility and supports the engagement and well-being of students.

This is a hybrid position with a 35-hour workweek and requires periodic night and weekend coverage as part of an on-call rotation. The Staff Psychotherapist will work with students presenting with trauma histories, including racialized, gender, sexual, and other trauma related to oppression.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide clinical services to eligible students, including short-term individual and group therapy, emergency/crisis response, consultation, and referral.
  • Rotate after-hours on-call responsibilities with Furman staff.
  • Participate in specialized clinical activities, including facilitating therapy groups and/or psychoeducational workshops.
  • Provide supervision to psychology or social work trainees.
  • Maintain patient records in accordance with regulations and policies.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • PhD in counseling, clinical psychology, or LCSW licensure or license eligibility in NY State.
  • Minimum of three years' experience conducting individual therapy and groups.
  • Demonstrated commitment to serving diverse populations, including a specialty in one of the following areas: LGBTQ identity, racial identity, first-gen college students, international students, neurodiversity.
  • Experience and/or expertise in trauma-informed treatment, such as DBT or EMDR.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to effectively address issues of race, gender, sexuality, ethnicity, and other identities within the campus community to promote social justice.
  • Ability to assess, evaluate, and refer students to appropriate resources and referrals.
  • Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively within a counseling service.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Hospital experience or significant experience with the full range of psychiatric disorders, including high-risk clients.
  • Experience treating a college population.
  • Experience with after-hours on-call crisis intervention.
