We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Power Electronics Engineer - Application Technical Lead to join our team at Trane Technologies. This role will be responsible for integrating variable speed drives into Trane Commercial Systems' HVAC equipment and providing technical direction to the Power Electronics Applications Team.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement power electronic device applications for Trane Commercial Products manufactured in North America, including new product development and lifecycle maintenance.
- Provide technical guidance and support to the Power Electronics Applications Team, including device selection recommendations, sizing, and qualification.
- Coach and mentor team members on power electronics applications and develop standard work processes and best practices.
- Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) for complex issues in the field and factories, and provide independent reviews for project design and technical reviews.
- Qualify variable frequency drives (VFDs) for use in Trane Commercial HVAC products and apply VFDs to HVAC equipment, including compressors and fans.
- Interface unit-level controls and safety features to the drive and optimize VFD cooling for product-specific needs.
- Analyze motor-drive compatibility and tune the electrical system for optimal performance, and write specifications for electrical components in the motor-drive system.
- Conduct qualification testing of the motor-drive system and provide lifecycle support of the product, including field and factory problem resolution.
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering and at least 7 years of variable frequency drive applications experience is required.
- Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering is a plus.
