The American Society of Echocardiography (ASE) is a nonprofit medical organization dedicated to enhancing cardiovascular ultrasound to improve patient outcomes. ASE is looking for a full-time Director of Clinical Guidelines.
Position Overview: The Director of Clinical Guidelines oversees the management of the Society's clinical standards and research initiatives. This role collaborates closely with the research department to execute activities that align with the Society's strategic and operational objectives. This full-time, exempt position reports to the Deputy CEO and may offer a remote work schedule, although occasional travel may be necessary.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Management (60% of the role)
- Oversee and manage guideline-related initiatives.
- Lead the Guideline and Standards Committee (G&S), including documentation, onboarding new members, supporting the Chair, and addressing inquiries.
- Establish and manage Writing Groups, which includes proposal development, group selection, conflict of interest management, document creation, peer review, and final approval. Responsible for managing 6-10 concurrent writing groups and overseeing additional groups managed by other staff.
- Coordinate with approved partner organizations for author and reviewer representation, mentoring ASE representatives during these collaborations.
- Submit finalized documents to the Journal of the American Society of Echocardiography (JASE) for publication, ensuring accuracy and facilitating author reviews.
- Manage external consultants, including medical illustrators and editors, as needed throughout the guideline development process.
- Oversee post-publication activities, collaborating with staff to disseminate documents to external stakeholders.
- Keep staff updated on document progress and coordinate with various departments.
- Work with corporate relations and product teams to develop guideline-related materials.
- Prepare and monitor the annual G&S Committee budget.
- Provide oversight for research-related projects and collaborate with the Research Department to develop and implement research offerings.
- Assist corporate relations and Foundation staff with funding requests and budget oversight.
- Ensure compliance with research protocols and budget monitoring.
- Deliver regular status updates to the Board of Directors regarding guidelines and research projects.
Collaborative Engagement (10% of the role):
- Serve as the primary contact for documents produced by other societies, including AUC projects.
- Manage nominations for ASE representatives on external writing groups and review panels.
- Solicit endorsements for ASE guideline documents from partner societies.
- Oversee the approval process for external guideline-related publications in JASE.
Marketing Support (10% of the role):
- Assist the marketing team by creating and promoting research and guideline messaging. Collaborate with authors and researchers for testimonials and interviews as needed.
- Contribute ideas to enhance guideline and research outreach efforts.
Supervisory Duties (15% of the role):
- Supervise the Research and Guidelines department staff, including conducting quarterly reviews and participating in supervisory meetings.
Additional Responsibilities (5% of the role):
- Administrative tasks: Attend staff meetings, participate in task forces, pursue professional development opportunities, and collaborate with team members.
- Contribute to various projects and tasks as needed to support ASE's success.
Travel Requirements: Occasional travel to meetings and events will be necessary.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: A Bachelor's degree is required.
Experience: A minimum of four years of experience in project management, including people management experience, is required. Experience in guideline development or quality-related projects is strongly preferred. A background in scientific, medical, education, or professional association settings, along with experience working with high-level professionals and volunteer committees, is preferred.

Physical Requirements: The role requires frequent sitting and repetitive hand movements. Must be adaptable to various hours to accommodate volunteer activities. Business travel necessitates the ability to endure air travel and long hours on foot.
