Role Summary

The Respiratory Care Assistant is responsible for delivering high-quality care to patients across all age groups, including infants, children, adults, and the elderly, depending on the designated area of service.

This role requires proficiency in performing specific skills and procedures validated by an accredited respiratory care program, adhering to state regulations and institutional policies under the guidance of the Respiratory Care leadership team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Achieve and uphold competency in executing therapeutic and diagnostic procedures as per departmental standards, which encompass:
    • General Care: Patient assessment, medical gas delivery, and bronchopulmonary hygiene.
    • Critical Care: Management of invasive and non-invasive ventilation, airway management, and monitoring.
    • Emergency Care: Responding to emergency situations, performing CPR, and assisting in patient stabilization.
    • Diagnostic Care: Conducting blood sampling, monitoring, and pulmonary function assessments.

Effectively operate and troubleshoot essential therapeutic and diagnostic equipment, ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards.

Provide education to patients regarding respiratory conditions, treatment options, and home care instructions.

Assist in the training of respiratory care students and contribute to the orientation of new staff members.

Maintain accurate patient documentation and participate in the development and evaluation of care plans.


Qualifications

Must be actively enrolled in or a recent graduate of an accredited respiratory therapy program. A current Limited Permit License is required for practice in Ohio facilities.

Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) is mandatory.

Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills are essential for effective collaboration with healthcare professionals.


Work Environment

Must be able to tolerate exposure to infectious diseases and adhere to infection control protocols. Physical demands include the ability to move efficiently within the hospital and occasionally assist with heavy equipment or patient transport.
