Job Title: Peer Support Specialist

About the Role:

This is an exciting opportunity to work with a dedicated team of professionals who share your passion for helping others. As a Peer Support Specialist, you will provide peer support and transportation services to clients at Safe Harbor, a program that offers a safe and supportive environment for individuals to work towards recovery.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist clients in articulating personal goals for recovery through one-to-one and group sessions.
  • Help clients determine the steps needed to access treatment services and support them in addressing barriers.
  • Assist clients in locating and participating in self-help/support groups, such as NA, AA, and Celebrate Recovery.
  • Model and teach problem-solving techniques with individuals and groups.
  • Utilize your recovery experience to assist clients in navigating systems for authorization and continuation of treatment services.
  • Work with referral sources to increase transitions of care to Safe Harbor service sites.
  • Complete outreach activities with referral resources to bring community awareness to Safe Harbor services.
  • Teach and role model the value of every individual's recovery experience.
  • Assist clients in identifying possible barriers and directing them to community resources for self-sufficiency and social determinants of health outcomes.
  • Assist clients in developing empowerment skills and combating stigma through self-advocacy.
  • Establish and maintain professional and timely documentation in the electronic medical records system.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of current trends and developments in substance use disorder and co-occurring disorders.
  • Provide transportation coordination and drive as needed to assist clients with prompt access to care and SUD treatment services.
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Self-identified as a person who has direct personal experience living in recovery from substance use/co-occurring disorder.
  • Significant experience (36 months minimum) working on their own recovery and an ability to manage their own wellness.
