Advanced Practice Psychiatric Nurse Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Advanced Practice Psychiatric Nurse to join our team at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, MD.
Job Summary:The successful candidate will practice independently and collaboratively with other healthcare team members to ensure a comprehensive plan of care for patients. They will perform developmental assessments and screenings, conduct diagnostic and screening tests, and initiate and evaluate treatment regimens that may include prescribing and dispensing medication.

- Perform developmental assessments and screenings, conduct diagnostic and screening tests, and initiate and evaluate treatment regimens that may include prescribing and dispensing medication.
- Communicate and collaborate with a diverse group of people to inform the healthcare team of plans/actions for teaching/education to benefit the patient/family and organization.
- Recognize conditions that require isolation and ensure universal precautions are used in all patient encounters.
- Attend staff meetings to provide case discussion, continuing education, and continuous quality improvement.
- Education: Graduate of a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) program OR a Psychiatric and Mental Health Clinical Nurse Specialist (PMHCNS) program accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) or the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).
- Certification: Board certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) certified or other recognized certifying body. Must maintain current certification in American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers; American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Course; American Red Cross CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) for the Professional Rescuer; or equivalent.
- Experience: Worked continuously as a prescribing Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner or Psychiatric Clinical Nurse Specialist for two of the last three years. Minimum one year of experience in the past three years caring for psychiatric patients.
- Licensure: Must pass and maintain a current, active, valid, unrestricted license as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner or Psychiatric Clinical Nurse Specialist city Prescriptive Authority in at least one U.S. State, District of Columbia, Commonwealth, territory or jurisdiction. All licenses shall be unencumbered and remain in effect during employment. Shall have documentation of current Drug Enforcement Agency number.
