DESCRIPTION

The City of Augusta, GA is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Plans Examiner.

Under the supervision of the Building Official, the incumbent will evaluate architectural plans and specifications for multi-family, commercial, and industrial structures to ensure adherence to relevant City and State regulations. Responsibilities include generating comprehensive plan correction reports and collaborating with architects, engineers, contractors, and property owners throughout the plan review process.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Conducts thorough reviews of plans, designs, calculations, and specifications for compliance with applicable codes and standards, ensuring structural integrity and accepted engineering practices. Communicates deficiencies and alternative solutions to contractors, engineers, architects, and property owners.
  • Maintains an organized plan routing and filing system for efficient access and tracking.
  • Performs field inspections and provides consultation to assist Building Inspectors, contractors, or applicants with construction-related inquiries.
  • Engages in additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: High school diploma or G.E.D.

Licensing: Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record. If the state license is from outside Georgia or South Carolina, the applicant must obtain a license in Georgia or South Carolina within 30 days of employment.

Entry-level hiring grade will be determined based on experience and certifications. All applicants will be considered for grade 19, with potential for a higher salary grade based on years of experience and ICC certifications.

Plans Examiner I
Certification: Three (3) ICC Certifications, including certification as a Building Inspector and Building Plans Examiner from the Commercial Codes.
Experience: Five (5) years of experience in building code compliance, plan examination, or construction technology.

Plans Examiner II
Certification: Four (4) ICC Certifications from the Commercial Codes, with two (2) certifications in commercial plans examination.
Experience: Seven (7) years of experience in building code compliance, plan examination, or construction technology.
