POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the guidance of the Child Development Director and Site Director, the Lead Educator is accountable for the comprehensive management of the classroom, ensuring a superior level of education and care for young learners.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee daily classroom operations, including outdoor activities, utilizing positive discipline strategies to foster a secure and healthy environment.
- Serve diverse communities fairly and maintain an inclusive, anti-racist perspective; encourage a respectful culture within the organization.
- Design and implement age-appropriate curricula, ensuring timely submission of necessary documentation and reports.
- Plan and document programming in accordance with state regulations.
- Maintain open communication with families and collaborate with colleagues to meet the unique needs of each child.
- Participate actively in supervision, multi-component, and staff meetings.
- Assist in preparing materials, equipment, and information for daily activities, including tracking attendance and meal counts.
- Adhere to proper food handling, sanitation, and safety procedures at all times.
- Keep an Anecdotal Log for each enrolled child (Early Childhood Only).
- Conduct monthly safety drills, including fire and lockdown procedures.
- Ensure classroom and storage areas are organized, tidy, and safe.
- Exemplify and uphold the core values of honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring; contribute to building trust and camaraderie within the community.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding child and family information.
- Supervise a group of children effectively.
- Assist in upholding all center policies, state regulations, and accreditation standards.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ATTRIBUTES:
Early Childhood: Familiarity with infant and toddler development, as well as Early Childhood Education and Connecticut Early Learning standards. School Age: Understanding of school-age development.
Possess a warm and nurturing demeanor.
Bilingual abilities (Spanish/English) are advantageous.
This role may require access to protected Health Information (PHI) for specific job functions.
Must be capable of working in a preschool or school-age environment, potentially interacting with children with communicable diseases and disabilities.
Physical demands include the ability to supervise children visually and audibly, react swiftly to safety concerns, and maintain a calm demeanor in stressful situations.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
OEC mandates:
A minimum of twelve (12) credits in early childhood education or child development from an accredited institution, along with at least one thousand and eighty (1,080) hours of documented supervised experience working with children under six years of age.
School Readiness Requirements for Early Childhood Only:
A Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field is required, along with the Connecticut Early Childhood Teacher credential by the specified deadline.
EXPERIENCE:
Early Childhood: At least two years of relevant experience is required.
School-Aged Childcare: A minimum of one year of experience is necessary.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Ability to supervise children effectively, respond to safety issues promptly, and assist children with daily activities, including physical tasks such as lifting up to 40 lbs.
