KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
This role involves skilled electronic and electrical work at a journeyman level, focusing on the construction, installation, upkeep, diagnostics, and repair of various traffic management systems. This includes electronic signage, traffic signals, incident management cameras, and communication networks, including copper and fiber optic systems, as well as street lighting maintenance.
Additional tasks may be assigned as necessary, including occasional electrical work in municipal facilities or infrastructure as directed.
The primary focus of this position will be on devices and systems related to the City's Automated Enforcement program, which encompasses traffic signals, cameras, and communication devices.
Work is conducted in accordance with established standards and practices, including OSHA, NESC, and IMSA regulations, under the guidance of the Traffic Signal Superintendent.
PRIMARY DUTIES
- Engage in the installation, maintenance, and repair of street lighting and traffic signal equipment, particularly components associated with the Automated Enforcement Program.
- Carry out maintenance on traffic signal controllers and cabinets.
- Diagnose wiring issues in cabinets, as well as overhead and underground systems.
- Install, troubleshoot, and rectify wiring issues in the street, including replacing conductors in conduits and testing loop detectors.
- Perform on-site repairs for equipment, including minor conduit repairs.
- Collaborate with vendors and suppliers regarding the installation, maintenance, and repair of Automated Enforcement Devices.
- Monitor computer systems for field troubleshooting and implement necessary adjustments.
- Document daily activities and related paperwork.
- Maintain logs and documentation for Automated Enforcement Devices as mandated by state statutes and municipal ordinances.
- Testify at hearings or court proceedings as required.
- Assist in the preparation and installation of traffic signal and street lighting equipment under the supervision of the Traffic Signal Superintendent.
- Respond to emergency calls for urgent repairs to traffic signals and street lighting equipment as needed.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
High school graduation or equivalent is required, along with a minimum of four years of experience and training leading to an unlimited electrical journeyperson's license (E2) or a limited electrical line journeyperson's license (L2). Possession of International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) Field Level 1 certification is preferred but not mandatory.

- At the time of application, candidates must possess a valid State of CT Unlimited Electrical Journeyperson License (E2) or a valid Limited Electrical Line Journeyperson's License (L2); if licensed in another state, candidates must obtain a CT license within one year of hire.
- At the time of application, candidates must hold a valid State of Connecticut driver's license and maintain it throughout employment.

COMPENSATION & EMPLOYMENT TERMSThis position is part of the General Fund and is classified as a "Tested" position.
This role is included in a collective bargaining agreement with the Local 884, American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees.
Bargaining agreements are available for review.
General Funded hires in this classification do not contribute to Social Security but participate in the City Pension, with an employee contribution rate of 9% of pay.Employment is contingent upon successful completion of: (1) a pre-employment background check, (2) a pre-employment physical examination, including drug screening in accordance with the City's Drug-Free Workplace Policy, and (3) a 90-day probationary period.
