Language Specialist

We are seeking a highly qualified language specialist to join our team at the Brookings School District 5-1. This is a full-time position that involves working with students who require speech and language services. About the Role
The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying, evaluating, and providing speech language therapies to children in the district who are identified as being in need of speech and/or language services due to an identified disability. As a language specialist, you will work closely with teachers, administrators, and other support staff to ensure that students receive the support they need to succeed academically and personally.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in the child find process for students suspected of being in need of special education services
- Conduct comprehensive evaluations of students referred for speech/language/hearing services in accordance with district special education procedures
- Coordinate and/or participate in various building, department, and staff meetings as well as meetings to address student evaluation and determination of services for students evaluated by or receiving therapy from the language specialist
- Schedule and provide direct speech language therapy services for those students in need of speech and/or language services
- Initiate and conduct student reevaluations and complete ongoing progress monitoring of students in therapy settings
- Complete all pertinent paperwork for the special education process
- Communicate effectively with administration, staff, parents, and students in the course of work completion
Requirements
- Must be licensed or able to achieve licensure in the state of South Dakota as a speech language therapist. ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) desired
- Must be able to perform all performance responsibilities listed in the job description
- Must be able to pass all required background checks in accordance with state law and district policy
