Charles County Public Schools is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Staff Accountant to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing, preparing, and analyzing financial and accounting records to ensure accuracy and compliance with reporting procedures and standards.
Key Responsibilities:- Manage and prepare financial and accounting records, including budgeting, accounting, reconciliations, and reporting.
- Prepare journal entries to record financial activity, reclassifications, and corrections to the general ledger.
- Examine and analyze accounting records, financial statements, and other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness, and conformance to reporting and procedural standards.
- Maintain and document up-to-date accounting policies and procedures, including internal controls.
- Assist with the preparation of fiscal and calendar year-end reports, making necessary adjustments to ensure expenses are properly recorded.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field required.
- Master's degree and/or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.
- 5+ years governmental accounting or related experience required, with an emphasis on financial processing, general ledger, cash management, internal controls, and audits of local government agencies preferred.
The Staff Accountant will work in a fast-paced environment with frequent deadlines and multiple priorities. The position requires excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
