Job Title: Fitness Instructor

YMCA of Greater Tulsa is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Fitness Instructor to lead group exercise classes in a safe and enjoyable environment.

Job Summary:

The Fitness Instructor will be responsible for planning, preparing, and instructing group classes that promote member wellness and engagement. This role requires strong leadership skills, adaptability, and the ability to create a positive and motivating atmosphere for participants.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Class Instruction: Lead group exercise classes in a safe and enjoyable environment, ensuring a clean, comfortable, and motivating atmosphere for participants.
  • Leadership and Adaptability: Demonstrate leadership capabilities and adaptability at the front of the class, making each session fun and engaging while motivating participants.
  • Class Format and Choreography: Based on class format, demonstrate the ability to move rhythmically to the beat of the music, incorporating optimal usage of cueing, tempo, choreography, and safe transitional movements.
  • Member Service: Provide excellent service to members and participants by learning and using student names, being available before and after class for questions, and building effective relationships.
  • Attendance and Substitute Management: Attend all scheduled classes; when an absence is unavoidable, secure a substitute and provide guidance for that substitute.
  • Corrective Action: Constructively correct members and class participants when incorrect or dangerous performance is observed.
  • Safety and Emergency Response: Demonstrate the highest level of safety in all activities and respond to emergencies, reporting incidents as required.
  • Professional Representation: Represent the YMCA in a positive, professional manner at all times, adhering to the dress code and showing courtesy towards all members, guests, and staff.
Requirements:
  • Age Requirement: Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Certification: Current national certification from ACE, ACSM, AFAA, YMCA, NSCA, NETA, or Cooper Institute.
  • On-boarding Safety Training: Complete all on-boarding safety training.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to relate and communicate well with individuals of all ages, races, religions, and communities.
  • CPR/AED/First Aid/O2 Certification: Current CPR/AED/First Aid/O2 certification.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience: At least six months of experience as a participant or teaching group fitness classes.
  • Teaching Variety: Ability to teach a variety of class formats is highly desirable.
  • Flexible Schedule: Flexible work schedule including evenings and weekends.
  • Education: Education in nutrition, physical education, public health, etc.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Bilingual: Bilingual - English/Spanish a plus.
Salary:

$15.50 per hour.
