Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Power Electronics Research and Development Engineer to join our team at our Milan M. Jovanović Power Electronics Lab in Research Triangle Park, NC.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and test high power electronics technologies for next-generation datacenter power solutions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams in Asia and Europe to propose new power solutions, analyze trade-offs, and run test verification.
  • Build and maintain technical competency in high power electronics applications from low to medium voltage systems.

Requirements

  • Master's degree or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering with a focus on power electronics.
  • 5+ years of experience in power electronics research and development.
  • Deep knowledge of topology, soft-switching techniques, modeling, and control of various types of power converters.
  • Hands-on experience in designing, debugging, and testing power converters.
  • Familiarity with control theory and implementation using digital controllers.
  • Proficiency in power-electronics simulation tools such as MATLAB/Simulink, SIMPLIS, PLECS, and MathCAD.
  • Solid understanding of power semiconductor device characteristics and its driving circuitry.
  • Solid understanding of high frequency magnetic component design and design tools such as Maxwell.
  • Basic knowledge and experience on thermal and mechanical design.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Solid understanding of multi-level converter and its application.
  • Familiarity with power architectures for EV charging, datacenters, renewable energy, and energy storage systems.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements and standards for power-electronics converter design.
  • Knowledge and experience about insulation design in power converters.
