Job Title: Family Law Paralegal

McKean Smith LLC is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Family Law Paralegal to join our team. As a key member of our Family Law department, you will play a critical role in supporting our attorneys in their practice by assisting with gathering, analyzing, and organizing information; drafting legal pleadings, discovery summaries and responses, motions, and other documents.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with assigned attorneys and support staff in preparing legal documentation and/or processing transactions.
  • Interview clients and locate expert witnesses.
  • Draft legal documents, including discovery motions, summary judgment motions, appellate briefs, affidavits, memoranda, and letters.
  • Investigate factual information to respond to litigation discovery requests or other information inquiries.
  • Perform legal research and analysis, both manually and on computers; compile, analyze, and summarize data.
  • Manage cases and files; organize and maintain files.
  • Perform factual and technical investigation and analysis of case issues.
  • Assist in all phases of case preparation, including discovery and trial.
  • Prepare for and attend trials.
  • Prepare jury instructions and trial binders; coordinate trial exhibits.
  • Monitor legal fees, budgets, and project status.
  • Provide general logistical help and support the maintenance of legal files.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of office systems and procedures as needed.
  • Assist with special projects as assigned.
Requirements:
  • At least 2 years of experience in Family Law in Clark County, WA, or equivalent.
  • Certification from an ABA-approved paralegal training program or equivalent required; Bachelors' degree (B.A.) in a related field or equivalent preferred.
  • Strong research skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent grammatical and spelling skills.
  • Proficient on Microsoft Office, LexisNexis, Centerbase (preferred).
  • Commitment to excellence and high standards.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills; able to manage priorities and workflow.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to deal effectively with a diversity of individuals at all organizational levels.
  • Good judgment with the ability to make timely and sound decisions.
  • Creative, flexible, and innovative team player.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of various teams and committees.
