Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Radiation Technologist to join our team at the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services. As a Medical Radiation Technologist, you will be responsible for performing advanced metabolic and dynamic radioisotope scanning tests, as well as associated wet laboratory procedures, to produce graphic and numerical results for the diagnosis of pathological conditions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare patients for tests, therapy, or treatments and administer radiopharmaceuticals by injection, inhalation, or oral route.
  • Perform nuclear medicine procedures, including lung ventilation and perfusion, myocardial imaging tests, gated images, and renal studies.
  • Operate gamma cameras for data acquisition, reconstruct images, evaluate technical quality, and submit for physician interpretation.
  • Calculate, dispense, and administer isotope dosages following established departmental procedures and safety measures.
  • Order radioactive materials, receive packages, and manage waste disposal.
  • Prepare, calculate, and document radiopharmaceuticals, employing safety methods to protect patients and medical staff from radiation exposure.
  • Perform quality control of gamma cameras, survey meters, and hot lab equipment regularly.
  • Explain procedures to nuclear medicine students, teach basic operating principles of common laboratory equipment, and demonstrate techniques.
  • Maintain records of equipment QC, inventory, procedures, doses administered, sealed sources, and disposal.
  • Adapt new nuclear medicine procedures for routine use.
  • Perform data analysis of in-vivo tests using data generated from scintillation probes or stationary imaging devices and recorded on tape or disc.
Requirements
  • Completion of an accredited training course in nuclear medicine techniques.
  • One year of experience performing nuclear medicine technological procedures at the level of a Nuclear Medicine Technologist I under the direction of a qualified physician in a clinical nuclear medicine facility.
  • Current certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist in Nuclear Medicine (AART-NM) or Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB).
Working Conditions

Appointees may be required to work any shift, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
