Radiation Protection Specialist Job Description

As a Radiation Protection Specialist with the County of Los Angeles, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe use of radiation-producing equipment in medical, dental, and industrial facilities. Your expertise will help prevent radiation exposure to patients, workers, and the public, while also enforcing state and federal regulations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct regular inspections of X-ray equipment to ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations.
  • Investigate radiation-related incidents and accidents to identify causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Provide training and consultation to medical professionals, technicians, and the public on radiation safety practices and procedures.
  • Develop and implement radiation safety programs to minimize exposure to radiation.
  • Collaborate with regulatory agencies and industry stakeholders to stay up-to-date on the latest radiation safety guidelines and regulations.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as health physics, physics, or radiologic technology.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a related field, such as health physics or radiation safety.
  • Valid California driver's license and ability to travel to various locations.
Desirable Qualifications:
  • Certified Radiologic Technologist (CRT) certification.
  • Experience working in a lead capacity in a radiology department.
