Overview
RED-Rochester, LLC is a leading multi-utility generation facility and district energy provider, serving a vast industrial landscape. We are currently in search of a Medium Voltage System Electrical Engineer to oversee and enhance the operation, maintenance, and advancement of our microgrid systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Formulate and sustain a comprehensive long-term strategic capital plan for the management of the electrical distribution network.
- Offer expert technical support in medium voltage (600V to 34.5KV) equipment, including substations, transformers, switchgear, MV cables, and motors/generators.
- Conduct power systems analysis, including load flow, voltage drop, short circuit evaluations, equipment protection, and arc flash assessments. Familiarity with SKM Power Tools for Windows is essential. Perform power quality assessments related to harmonics and system disruptions.
- Provide project management assistance and serve as the Project Electrical Engineer for both internally initiated and client-driven projects, overseeing contract project engineers.
- Deliver engineering support for the daily operations and maintenance of RED-Rochester's Medium Voltage systems.
- Assist various RED departments with electrical engineering expertise related to building systems, encompassing HVAC, reliable power supply, general lighting, IT cabling, security systems, and fire alarms.
- Extend technical guidance in low voltage (48V to 600V) distribution equipment, variable frequency drives, and motors.
- Collaborate with RED's Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) team to ensure compliance with electrical safety standards as per applicable NFPA regulations.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Preferred experience in business development, manufacturing, energy generation, or distribution sectors.
Experience Requirements:
- A minimum of 10 years in engineering, construction, and design related to power plants and energy-intensive industrial processes.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
- A New York State Professional Engineer (PE) License is expected for this role.
Position Expectations:
- Experience in managing capital or maintenance projects.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, across technical support and operational teams.
- Adept at interacting with external contractors and vendors.
- Willingness to work scheduled and unscheduled overtime and respond to after-hours emergencies.
- Knowledgeable in Medium Voltage (600V to 34.5KV) systems and equipment.
- Familiar with Low Voltage (480V to 600V) systems and equipment.
Work Environment:
- Work will be conducted in both industrial and office settings.
- Some tasks may require working in challenging environments, including noisy and dirty areas.
