Job Summary

This leadership position is responsible for managing and overseeing claims operations within the organization. The ideal candidate will have experience in claims management, leadership, and strategic planning. The primary responsibilities include effective loss and expense management, employee development and succession planning, training, staffing, performance measurements, and continuous improvement. The position also requires facilitating unit-level strategies to support claims initiatives and ensuring compliance with regulatory and statutory requirements.

Job Duties

  • Ensure all claims within the unit meet or exceed quality and regulatory requirements by regularly reviewing claim files and monitoring performance reports, customer survey data, and audit results. Implement corrective actions to address deficiencies.
  • Recruit, develop, and manage a team of claims professionals to accomplish the unit's objectives. Oversee employee recruitment, staff development, and training to ensure an effective succession plan. Provide timely and responsive employee coaching and performance counseling.
  • Provide opportunities for professional growth and development, delegate authority, and capitalize on the capabilities of all employees. Ensure decisions align with corporate and claims division goals.
  • Communicate corporate, unit, and team goals with direct reports, monitor and reinforce behavior that supports technical and customer service performance expectations. Continuously seek innovative approaches to address organizational issues.
  • Ensure effective communication between the unit management team and internal and external customers. Interact with various individuals to address customer service issues in a prompt and professional manner.
  • Prepare reports and statistical data on behalf of the department regarding performance, cost, staffing, and resource allocation. Attend meetings to evaluate work product, case management systems, and overall administrative projects.
  • Participate in committees and projects designed to enhance the organization's goals and objectives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
  • 7-9 years of claims handling and/or operations experience required.
  • 4-6 years of management or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Advanced organizational and planning skills required.
  • Advanced oral and written communication skills required.
  • Advanced interpersonal skills necessary.
  • Ability to effectively lead change.
  • Valid driver's license, acceptable Department of Motor Vehicles record, and minimum liability insurance required.
  • Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) certification required.

Scope

  • This position works independently with broad scope and established departmental policies/practices. Refers specific problems to the supervisor only when clarification of departmental operating policies/procedures is required.
  • This position manages/supervises people.
  • Erroneous decisions or recommendations would normally result in the inability to reach crucial organizational objectives and may have a prolonged effect, as well as result in the expenditure of substantial resources.

This position represents the organization as the primary contact and interacts with management and senior value-chain partners on matters requiring coordination across organizational lines. Achievement of objectives requires the ability to influence others both internally and potentially externally.

The starting pay range for this position is $114,800.00 - $153,100.00. Additionally, for full-time positions, you will be eligible to participate in our incentive program based on the achievement of organization, team, and personal performance.
