About This Role
As a Renewable Energy Systems Engineer at Carrier, you will play a vital role in advancing decarbonization initiatives, informing strategic decisions, and developing recommendations that align with our clients' electrification and sustainability objectives.
Your engagement in a variety of efficiency, resilience, and decarbonization projects will encompass everything from initial feasibility studies to project execution, supporting client decision-making throughout the project lifecycle.
This position offers the chance to serve as a technical resource while collaborating closely with clients and members of the Carrier business development, operations, and engineering teams to identify, assess, and implement decarbonization strategies and projects.
Recommend technical solutions focused on electrical systems, including renewable energy, Photovoltaic (PV) systems, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), Microgrids, and Electric Vehicle (EV) infrastructure based on data-driven evaluations.
Lead the development of electrification, resilience, and renewable energy projects, performing tasks such as:
Assisting the Business Development team with reviewing and responding to Requests for Proposals (RFPs), and participating in client interviews as a Subject Matter Expert.
Conducting detailed site evaluations (both remote and on-site), identifying optimal system sizing, developing conceptual equipment layouts, pinpointing system interconnection points, and assessing system feasibility based on site conditions.
Performing simulation modeling and/or creating spreadsheet-based energy calculations to analyze annual production/energy savings, avoided costs, and greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction impacts.
Executing initial component selection and producing supporting reference materials, including single line diagrams, equipment specifications, engineering validations, and 3D renderings.
Creating budget-quality project cost estimates for financial proformas, life cycle cost analyses, or supporting financial decision-making.
Assisting clients in securing project approvals.
Managing multiple projects in alignment with contracts, schedules, budgets, scopes of work, and design specifications.
Building effective and positive business relationships both internally and externally within the industry. Attending trade meetings and industry events to foster and enhance business connections.
Conducting research and staying informed about industry trends to continually evaluate and recommend innovative technologies. Serving as an internal Subject Matter Expert regarding the electrical implications of advancements.
Additionally, as part of our Sustainability Services consulting team, you will have the opportunity to contribute to various decarbonization, electrification, and sustainability services such as:
Developing strategic decarbonization and electrification plans
Recommending renewable and energy efficiency technologies including PV, wind turbines, micro-cogeneration systems, microgrids, battery energy storage, and electric vehicle charging infrastructure
Participating in third-party commissioning projects as well as energy audits and retro-commissioning studies
Assisting in the development of industry standards and local energy codes to ensure considerations of electrical constraints in code amendments and proposals.
Learning from in-house technical Subject Matter Experts, participating in our formal mentorship program, and training junior engineers.
Willingness to travel up to 20%
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree.
7+ years of combined project engineering/project management experience with electrical and/or renewable engineering tasks, such as Photovoltaic (PV), Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), Electric Vehicle (EV), or microgrid system consulting, design, construction oversight, and/or commissioning.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution
Relevant engineering experience in evaluating electrification opportunities, identifying renewable energy prospects, conducting on-site surveys, component selection, utility bill analysis, or energy/cost savings calculations.
Proven experience in construction management at a commercial scale
Extensive knowledge of distributed energy resources, grid interactivity, demand response, building electrification, and climate policies.
Familiarity with local, regional, national, and international energy codes and standards, including NFPA and NEC, as well as the permitting process
Experience with renewable energy credit and incentive programs
AEE Certified Renewable Energy Professional – REP or SEI solar professional certification.
Certified Energy Manager (CEM) certification
Professional Engineer's registration (or EIT with a path to obtaining one)
Experience with system energy modeling software
Proficiency in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
Strong organizational, verbal, and written communication skills
Demonstrated experience in collaborative work with cross-functional teams.
Detail-oriented with a strong sense of personal responsibility and ownership of work products.
