Position Overview

The J. Whitney Bunting College of Business & Technology at Georgia College & State University invites applications for the position of Department Chair of Accounting & Business Law. The successful candidate will provide administrative and academic leadership for the department, collaborating with faculty to fulfill the department's and college's objectives, particularly concerning the academic programs.

Key Responsibilities

Administrative Duties -
Oversee the implementation of the Department's mission, aligning with the university's vision and strategic goals. Responsibilities include the recruitment, orientation, and advisement of students, staff, and faculty, as well as supervising departmental employees and conducting performance evaluations. The Chair will also manage course scheduling and collaborate with faculty on program reviews to enhance the quality of instruction and academic offerings.

Fiscal Management -
Administer the departmental budget and collaborate with faculty in budget planning.

Leadership -
As the department leader, the Chair will mentor faculty, contribute to university policies, and support AACSB accreditation efforts. The Chair will also engage with alumni, fundraise, and maintain connections with business communities to shape the curriculum's vision and direction. Additionally, the Chair will carry a teaching load during the academic year and participate in various committees.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
Candidates must possess a terminal degree (PhD, ABD, or JD) from an accredited institution and have a record of scholarly research in their field. The ideal candidate will have exemplary teaching experience, strong leadership skills, and a commitment to the public liberal arts mission.

Preferred Qualifications
At least three years of academic leadership experience at the chair level or higher, familiarity with curriculum development, and a commitment to integrating high-impact pedagogies into the curriculum are preferred.
