Purpose

The main objective of this role is to prepare and cook both hot and cold meals while adhering to all relevant federal, state, and local standards, as well as our internal policies and procedures. This includes maintaining sanitation, managing inventory, scheduling, menu planning, and supervising kitchen operations as directed by the supervisor or Culinary Operations Director.

Key Responsibilities

Culinary Operations

Review and follow menus prior to food preparation. Ensure meals are prepared according to planned menus, standards, and recipes, making certain they are visually appealing and flavorful.

Inspect dietary trays to confirm that residents receive the correct meals. Serve food following established portion control guidelines. Prepare meals for special dietary needs as outlined in the menu.

Complete necessary administrative tasks, including forms and reports, and submit them to the Director of Culinary Services.

Adhere to all dietary procedures in accordance with established policies.

Assist in creating timelines for meal preparation to ensure timely service.

Prepare and serve alternative meals for residents who decline the standard offerings.

Support meal service as needed, ensuring prompt delivery.

Contribute to food preparation for special events and gatherings.

Meet in-service training requirements as mandated by federal and state regulations.

Safety and Sanitation

Prepare food in compliance with sanitary regulations, including proper hand hygiene and adherence to established policies.

Maintain a clean and safe work environment, ensuring that all necessary equipment and supplies are available.

Equipment and Supply Management

Ensure that food and supplies for upcoming meals are prepared and accessible.

Assist in the inventory and proper storage of incoming food and supplies.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Ability to make independent decisions and follow instructions effectively.

Strong interpersonal skills to interact tactfully with residents, families, and staff.

Capability to work with individuals who may be ill, elderly, or emotionally distressed.

Proficiency in English for effective communication with supervisors, staff, residents, and families.

Education and Experience

Background in culinary arts is preferred.

At least 6 months of experience in a commercial kitchen is desirable.

Knowledge of cooking a variety of foods in large quantities is essential.

Familiarity with culinary practices, procedures, and food safety standards is required.

Licensing/Certifications

Serve Safe Certification or food handler's permit is preferred.
