Education:
A Master's degree from an accredited institution in speech language pathology is required.

Certification or Licensure:
Possession of an S-5 Teaching Certificate in Speech Language is mandatory.

Skills:
Comprehensive understanding of the instructional curriculum and special education initiatives. In-depth knowledge of Individual Education Programs (IEP), learning theories, differentiated instruction, data collection methodologies, effective instructional practices, research-based reading strategies, multicultural education, assessments, and compliance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEIA 2004), as well as the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB 2001) and relevant state and federal regulations concerning special education. Proven ability to collaborate effectively with students with disabilities, educators, and their families. Competence in adapting instructional strategies, programs, and materials as needed. Proficient in collecting instructional data to inform decision-making processes. Demonstrated organizational and problem-solving skills. Exceptional oral and written communication abilities. Strong interpersonal skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, along with other educational software.

Work Experience:
Prior professional experience in speech language pathology is preferred. Experience within a K-12 educational setting is also preferred.

PRIMARY DUTY:


This role is dedicated to delivering therapeutic interventions aimed at addressing speech language disorders in preschool and school-aged children, facilitating their full engagement with the standard educational curriculum.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct screenings, evaluations, and provide speech language therapy for students identified with speech language challenges.
  • Recognize students with significant speech and language disorders.
  • Receive referrals and carry out comprehensive evaluations for all referred students.
  • Offer interventions and support to general education teachers, special education teachers, and parents through the Response to Intervention (RTI) framework.
  • Administer screenings in the domain of speech-language.
  • Assess and diagnose specific speech or language deficits in referred students.
  • Prepare and submit precise and appropriate evaluations, screenings, and reports within established timelines.
RICHMOND COUNTY SCHOOL SYSTEM (RCSS) JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Develop suitable goals and objectives for educationally focused speech-language therapy sessions targeting areas of need for speech-impaired students.
  • Deliver high-quality education-based therapeutic interventions aligned with goals related to identified deficits.
  • Monitor and communicate student progress to students, educators, parents, and members of RTI or IEP teams.
  • Collaborate with general classroom teachers, special education instructors, related service providers, and parents to devise a variety of strategies that address the educational needs of special education students.
  • Maintain a positive and professional demeanor with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Uphold confidentiality standards as dictated by federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Complete necessary documentation for Medicaid billing promptly.
  • Fulfill additional paperwork requirements associated with private/homeschooled and preschool students.
  • Provide services for eligible private school, home-schooled, and preschool students.
  • Engage in professional development activities, workshops, seminars, and conferences to maintain expertise in the field of speech-language pathology.
  • Promote a school environment that fosters success for both students and staff, emphasizing respect and appreciation for all individuals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education or designated representative.
