Role Overview
The CT Imaging Specialist conducts procedures and tests utilizing Computerized Tomography (CT) equipment to acquire and analyze patient diagnostic data.
Patient Verification
Ensures accurate patient identification and documents pregnancy status for patients of childbearing age.
CT Scanning Responsibilities
Obtains images according to established protocols, manipulates images as required, and performs multi-planar and 3D reconstructions of image data. Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of CT algorithms and selects appropriate window and level settings based on anatomical considerations.
Contrast Administration
Administers oral contrast to both adult and pediatric patients in accordance with protocols. Establishes intravenous lines and administers IV contrast following safe injection procedures. Checks lab values to determine contrast eligibility prior to administration.
Image Management
Maintains a thorough understanding of PACS and transmits images to quality control, electronic medical records, and PACS systems. Verifies and segments images at the quality control station and utilizes service tools to ensure successful image transmission. Completes, modifies, or cancels orders in a timely manner to prevent duplicate billing.
Demographic Accuracy
Verifies patient identification in compliance with organizational policies, ensuring all demographic information is accurate on PACS images.
Additional Responsibilities
Performs tasks efficiently, manages scheduling to create a consistent workflow, and volunteers for challenging tasks and new research opportunities. Produces high-quality diagnostic images, reviews patient charts for correlation, and maintains a clean and organized work environment. Documents incidents as opportunities for improvement within the department.
Training and Development
Precepts new employees and students, fostering a culture of learning and development.
Qualifications
Completion of an accredited educational program in Radiological Science or completion within three months at the time of application. Relevant education, training, and experience that equip the candidate to perform assigned tasks effectively.
