Job Description

As a Patient Care Associate at Northwell Health, you will play a vital role in providing direct care to patients. Your responsibilities will include performing various tasks such as phlebotomy, EKG, obtaining specimens and cultures, activities of daily living, simple wound dressings, and vital signs. You will also be responsible for sharing accountability for quality patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with the unit's admission and discharge processes.
  • Establish good interpersonal relationships with families/visitors and hospital staff.
  • Report vital information to all levels of the healthcare team, as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with patients and visitors.
  • Maintain good communication with co-workers for proper team functioning.
  • Communicate pertinent patient observations to members of the health care team.
  • Perform direct patient care as assigned for designated group of patients.
  • Obtain and document patient vital signs (temperature, blood pressure, respirations, pulse, weight, and height) using appropriate equipment.
  • Apprise the Registered Nurse and health care team of any observed significant changes in the patient's condition.
  • Communicate written and verbal information.
  • Respond to patient requests and/or call light.
  • Maintain a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients and families in accordance with hospital standards.
  • Function in an emergency situation as a team member with guidance from supervisory personnel.
  • Assist with restrained patients according to established policy.
  • Perform grade I and II decubitus care, as directed.
  • Perform activities of daily living appropriate to patient's condition.
  • Use proper body mechanics, obtain help and/or use appropriate equipment when lifting, moving, or transferring patients from bed to chair, putting them on stretchers, and assisting them into wheelchairs.
  • Perform delegated patient care procedures.
  • Obtain and label specimens, and perform certain diagnostic tests consistent with established procedures, as directed.
  • Perform phlebotomy procedures.
  • Perform telemetry and electrocardiograms, as directed.
  • Use clinical knowledge in the care and management of patients based on diagnoses and the unit assigned.
  • Perform related duties as required.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience, required.
