Highway Project Engineer

Job Summary:

Prime AE Group, a leading architecture and engineering firm, is seeking a highly skilled Highway Project Engineer to join our team in the Baltimore region. As a key member of our design team, you will be responsible for the design and development of new construction, reconstruction, and rehabilitation projects for roadways, sidewalks, and intersections throughout Maryland.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and Development: Develop and be involved with the design of various types of highway, bridge, and traffic projects, including urban and rural roadways, interstates, interchanges, traffic management, transportation planning, highway safety, site planning, preparation of concept alignments, geometric layout, MOT, and ADA compliance projects.
  • Project Management: Develop deliverables and provide quality control for all stages of a project, including preliminary layouts, final plans, reports, specifications, and estimates.
  • Team Leadership: Oversee the work of Design Engineers and Engineering Technicians.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Coordinate and work with other design teams and assess the activities and deliverables of the various subconsultants and disciplines associated with the project.
  • Mentorship and Development: Develop and mentor the highway engineering skillsets of entry-level design engineers.
  • Client and Stakeholder Management: Interact and coordinate with clients, team members, and subconsultants to successfully deliver projects.

Requirements:

  • Education: BSCE (required), MSCE (a plus).
  • Professional Certification: Professional Engineer (PE) registration is required.
  • Experience: 8-10 years' progressive experience in highway design responsibilities.
  • Technical Skills: Demonstrated hands-on experience using MicroStation (preferred), AutoCAD or Civil 3D. Demonstrated experience with roadway modeling (Inroads, OpenRoads). Demonstrated experience with AASHTO Policy's and Guidelines.
  • Soft Skills: Excellent communication, presentation, and organizational skills required. Valid driver's license required. Demonstrated ability to deliver challenging projects. Ability to work on simultaneous task assignments. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to lead and work within teams. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to author proposals. Ability to work effectively with little supervision. Professionalism appropriate to represent PRIME to clients.
