The Tonto Apache Tribe is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Law Enforcement Officer to join our team. As a Law Enforcement Officer, you will be responsible for providing police protection of life and property, reducing crime, and treating everyone with dignity and respect.
Key Responsibilities- Patrol assigned areas to detect, investigate, and stop criminal activity.
- Enforce Tribal, State, and Federal laws and ordinances.
- Respond to radio and telephone requests for assistance from the public.
- Secure crime scenes, collect, preserve, and photograph evidence.
- Investigate calls for service and prepare reports, including interviewing victims, witnesses, and suspects.
- Make arrests, issue citations, request charging, obtain criminal complaints, and serve warrants.
- Serve warnings, subpoenas, warrants of arrest, and court orders, as well as Council community notices.
- Appear in court both on and off duty.
- Participate in Community Oriented Policing and other community programs, assisting with medical attention.
- Report conditions that may be hazardous or libelous to the Tribe.
- Participate in training programs to maintain skills and meet BIA and AZ POST annual requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned by a Supervisor or Tribal Council.
- Education: High school diploma or GED required.
- Specialized Knowledge: Principles and practices of modern police work and law enforcement methods, problem-oriented policing methods.
- Skills: Competent in communication skills, proficient in weapons, proficient in evidence collection.
- Abilities: Have or be able to obtain an Arizona Driver's License prior to employment and be insurable under the Tonto Apache Tribe's auto insurance carrier. Successfully pass a background investigation, which may include a written and oral exam, physical agility test, polygraph, and psychological exam. Pass a drug test.
- Other Characteristics: Must be able to demonstrate cultural sensitivity. Work requires walking, running, lifting, and climbing during efforts to catch or subdue hostile individuals.
- Professional Certification: Must be able to acquire or maintain an AZ POST and BIA certification experience.
- Experience: AZ POST certified preferred.
- Special Requirements: Be at least 21 years of age; exception - that a person may attend an academy if the person will be 21 before graduating.
- Working Conditions: Work any assignment, or shift to support the 24-hour per day, 7-day week operation. This includes nights, weekends, and holidays, and when the need arises; adjust their schedule to accomplish a mission or operational needs.
- Physical Requirements: Work requires walking, running, lifting, and climbing during efforts to catch or subdue hostile individuals. Exposure to potentially hazardous, uncontrollable, and life-threatening situations. Officers may need to respond to calls involving stressful, traumatic, dangerous, and unpredictable situations. Work is performed in all weather conditions.
