Accounts Receivable Specialist

Northeast Family Services is actively seeking a dedicated Billing Specialist to enhance our dynamic workforce.
This role REQUIRES occasional access to our Warwick RI or Lawrence MA office and cannot be considered fully remote.
NFS is a well-established organization with a presence in multiple states, specializing in delivering therapeutic services to individuals and families through various modalities including telehealth and in-person support. We are in search of a committed and enthusiastic Billing Specialist to contribute to our mission.
The Billing Specialist plays a crucial role in executing essential billing and administrative tasks to ensure precise management of the practice's receivables. This position involves collaborating with a team to perform a range of daily responsibilities, such as preparing accurate and timely claims submissions, resolving payer denials, posting payments into patient accounting systems, maintaining meticulous records, and tracking payment information.

Key Responsibilities:
- Timely processing of behavioral health billing
- Ensuring the accuracy of submitted claims
- Verifying ICD-10 / CPT coding for correctness and making necessary adjustments
- Communicating with payers, third-party vendors, and patients regarding claims, payments, and outstanding balances
- Reviewing explanations of benefits to confirm correct claims processing and payment
- Monitoring and identifying the status of outstanding accounts
- Contacting third-party payors, patients, or others for outstanding payments
- Processing refund transactions for overpaid accounts
- Handling correspondence related to claim rejections
- Credentialing staff with relevant agencies
- Executing special projects, reports, and additional duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Ability to work remotely, with occasional access to the Lawrence, MA or Warwick, RI office
- Experience with UB04/1500 billing
- Excellent communication skills and familiarity with a fast-paced work environment
- Experience in multi-state billing
- Strong organizational skills
- Aptitude for analyzing processes and conceptualizing solutions
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of 2 years of medical billing experience, preferably in a billing agency or provider's office
- Proficient in MS Office products with advanced Excel skills
- Experience with EHRs / EMRs / Medical Billing Software is essential
- Proficiency in Carelogic is advantageous

Compensation:
- Full-time position with a salary range of $50,000 - $60,000 based on experience
