Lead Software Engineer

Peraton is in search of a Senior Software Developer to contribute to our initiatives supporting the Deep Space Network (DSN) program in collaboration with JPL and NASA.
The Deep Space Network represents NASA's global network of large radio antennas, essential for interplanetary spacecraft missions and certain Earth-orbiting missions. It also facilitates radar and radio astronomy observations that enhance our comprehension of the solar system and the broader universe. The DSN antennas serve as the vital connection for commanding spacecraft and receiving unprecedented images and scientific data, advancing our knowledge of the universe and our place within it.
In this role, you will report to the Mission Assurance and Program Integration (MAPI) Manager and engage with external stakeholders. Your responsibilities will include designing innovative solutions, leading a team of software engineers, and developing capabilities to meet customer objectives. In a dynamic and agile environment, you will collaborate with clients to identify requirements, translate them into actionable tasks, and guide a skilled team of software developers in transforming conceptual ideas into practical applications.

Key Responsibilities:
- Engage in research, recommendations, and architectural discussions that shape the overall vision of the DSN O&M Program Office.
- Act as the technical lead for DSN O&M Program MAPI applications and tool suite.
- Document client requirements, system architectures, testing plans, and test cases.
- Create software design artifacts to capture high-level design elements.
- Establish work structures for a team of software developers through agile user stories.
- Support software development and completion of user stories.
- Collaborate with the development team to verify and validate system changes, troubleshoot issues, and support system upgrades.
- Adhere to software and engineering best practices and customer processes.
- Develop advanced custom client/server applications.
Required Qualifications:
- 5 years of experience with a BS/BA; 3 years with an MS/MA; 0 years with a PhD. 4 years of relevant experience may substitute for a Bachelor's degree.
- 3-5 years of experience leading a software development team.
- Experience in information system operation and maintenance.
- Proficiency in relational database design and implementation.
- Comprehensive understanding of both waterfall and agile methodologies.
- Experience in general web development (HTML, JavaScript, CSS), C# .NET Framework, PHP, Visual Basic, ASP.NET, Microsoft IIS, Jira, React/Angular, NodeJS, and Containerization.
- 2-5 years of experience in Java with an understanding of service-based design.
- 1-3 years of experience with JavaScript frameworks such as React.
- Experience in testing, supporting, and deploying systems/software in a government context.
- Ability to anticipate challenges and take decisive action.
- Innovative problem-solving skills.
- Experience working within a structured engineering process, e.g., CMMI Level III or higher, and applying engineering best practices.
- Experience in cloud-based development environments.
