Position Overview

Peraton is seeking a Compatibility Test Engineer to support our operations in the Deep Space Network (DSN) program.

The Deep Space Network is a critical component of NASA's mission, featuring a global array of large radio antennas that facilitate communication with interplanetary spacecraft and provide essential radar and radio astronomy observations. This network serves as the vital link for missions beyond the moon, enabling the command of spacecraft and the reception of groundbreaking images and scientific data.

The Compatibility Test Engineer plays a key role in ensuring the functionality and integration of spacecraft systems prior to launch. This position involves working across multiple DSN test facilities, including development and compatibility testing environments. The ideal candidate will address complex challenges related to the installation, maintenance, and operation of various subsystems within these facilities. Flexibility to work different shifts and travel to remote testing sites is required.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conducts and supports compatibility and re-verification testing of spacecraft or subsystems before launch.
  • Develops comprehensive test procedures for spacecraft and subsystem evaluations.
  • Utilizes advanced analytical techniques to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues.
  • Proposes innovative solutions and improvements based on available resources.
  • Performs research to enhance or reconfigure systems and equipment.
  • Investigates equipment performance issues and addresses customer requirements.
  • Ensures compliance with all relevant policies and specifications.
  • Creates and updates technical documentation for installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Develops new methodologies to tackle complex technical challenges.
  • Identifies and resolves intricate problems involving multiple technical disciplines.
  • Applies advanced principles and concepts, demonstrating creativity and innovation.
  • Contributes to the development of new principles and concepts within the field.
  • Supports customers throughout the development and testing phases.
  • Configures and loads necessary software for testing activities.
  • Maintains and calibrates testing equipment to ensure operational readiness.
  • Handles installation and troubleshooting of station equipment.
  • Processes and implements modification information and software packages.
Qualifications

0 years with BS/BA; 4 years without a degree.

Required Qualifications:
  • A minimum of 4 years of relevant experience.
  • Availability to work different shifts and travel as needed.
  • Ability to pass a trusted background check and a National Criminal Information Check (NCIC). U.S. citizenship is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • BA/BS degree in a technical or engineering discipline.
  • Understanding of the Deep Space Network's operations, hardware, and software.
  • Ability to interpret technical documents related to the DSN.
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
  • Professional interaction with customers and stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with digital and radio frequency equipment.
  • Basic computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Experience in writing test procedures.

Salary Range

$66,000 - $106,000, reflecting the typical compensation for this role based on experience and qualifications.
