Lead Software Engineer

Peraton is in search of a Senior Software Developer to contribute to our initiatives supporting the Deep Space Network (DSN) program in collaboration with JPL and NASA.
The Deep Space Network serves as NASA's extensive network of large radio antennas, facilitating communication for interplanetary missions and providing critical radar and radio astronomy data that enhances our comprehension of the solar system and the universe at large. This network is vital for maintaining contact with explorers beyond the moon, enabling command and data retrieval from spacecraft, and delivering unprecedented images and scientific insights back to Earth, thereby enriching our understanding of the cosmos and our position within it.
In this role, you will report to the Mission Assurance and Program Integration (MAPI) Manager while also engaging with external stakeholders. Your responsibilities will include crafting innovative solutions, leading a team of software engineers, and developing functionalities that align with customer missions. Operating in a dynamic and agile environment, you will collaborate with clients to ascertain their requirements, convert those needs into actionable tasks, and guide a proficient team of software developers in transforming conceptual ideas into tangible applications.

Key Responsibilities:
- Engage in research, recommendations, and architectural discussions that shape the overarching vision of the DSN O&M Program Office.
- Act as the technical lead for DSN O&M Program MAPI applications and tool suite.
- Document client specifications, system architectures, testing strategies, and test scenarios.
- Create software design documentation to encapsulate high-level design elements.
- Establish work structures for a team of software developers through agile user stories.
- Support the software development process and the completion of user stories.
- Collaborate with the development team to validate system modifications, ensure requirements are fulfilled, troubleshoot issues, and assist with system upgrades.
- Adhere to software and engineering best practices and customer protocols.
- Develop innovative custom client/server applications.
Required Qualifications:
- 5 years of experience with a BS/BA; 3 years with an MS/MA; 0 years with a PhD. 4 years of relevant experience may substitute for a Bachelor's degree.
- 3-5 years of experience leading a software development team.
- Proficient in information system operation and maintenance.
- Experience in relational database design and implementation.
- Comprehensive understanding of both waterfall and agile methodologies.
- Familiarity with general web development (HTML, JavaScript, CSS), C# .NET Framework, PHP, Visual Basic, ASP.NET, Microsoft IIS, Jira, React/Angular, NodeJS, and Containerization.
- 2-5 years of experience in Java with an understanding of service-oriented architecture.
- 1-3 years of experience with JavaScript frameworks such as React.
- Experience in testing, supporting, and deploying systems/software in a government environment.
- Ability to foresee challenges and take proactive measures.
- Capability to devise innovative solutions to complex problems.
- Experience working within a structured engineering process, such as CMMI Level III or higher, while employing engineering best practices.
- Experience in cloud-based development environments.
