Job Summary

Assist in the preparation and serving of food for the Elder Nutrition program and coordinate food services for the Elder Nutrition Program in the absence of the supervisor by performing the following duties.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare, cook, and serve food and beverages.
  • Provide limited oversight of the kitchen and staff.
  • Carry pans, kettles, and trays of food to and from work stations, stove, and refrigerator.
  • Modify, enlarge, or reduce recipes as needed.
  • Clean pots, pans, dishes, counters, and appliances, and maintain the dining room area.
  • Clean work areas, equipment, and utensils, segregate and remove garbage and recyclable materials, and steam clean or hose garbage containers.
  • Receive and examine foods and supplies to ensure quality and quantity meet standards and specifications.
  • Unpack and store food, labeling each as necessary, clean and organize storage areas.
  • Assist in training helpers and volunteers in cleaning, cooking, and serving.
  • Follow local, state, and federal health, safety, and sanitation regulations.
  • Assume the duties of the van driver as needed.
  • Assist the cook with menu planning and food purchasing as needed.
  • Follow the menu plan and serving sizes as required by Title VI program standards.
  • Fulfill the duties of the cook when required.
  • Attend staff meetings and other meetings as assigned.
  • Adhere to accreditation and compliance standards/guidelines.
  • Maintain a professional, organized, and clean working environment by following organizational policies, guidelines, and safety standards.
  • Assist in the development of departmental policy, procedures, and quality improvement activities within the clinic as directed.
  • Use computer programs for entering timesheets, reading emails, completing online trainings, etc.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education/Experience

  • Level I: High school diploma or general education degree (GED), experience preferred.
  • Level II: In addition, one year experience is required.

Computer Operations

  • Basic personal computer skills including electronic mail, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc.

Language Skills

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions.
  • Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Shall possess a valid driver's license.
  • Must be eligible for the agency's vehicle insurance and provide proof of private vehicle coverage.
  • Must have or be able to obtain CPR certification within six months of hire and maintain such.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a food handlers certificate within one (1) month of hire and maintain such.

Other Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to operate standard office equipment (copier, fax, etc.).
  • Must be able to work with American Indian people and be sensitive to their culture.
  • Comply with all safety policies, practices, and procedures. Report all unsafe activities to supervisor and/or Human Resources.
  • Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve the Mission, Vision, and Guiding principles of UIHS.
