Job Overview

Summary of Role

This role is pivotal in overseeing the management of fresh produce, ensuring adherence to food safety standards, maintaining quality control, driving sales, and managing departmental expenses. The individual will also be responsible for guiding both staff and customers in product choices, recipe suggestions, and meal planning solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Product Oversight

  • Design and uphold engaging product displays that attract customer attention and influence purchasing behavior. Ensure all merchandising aligns with company standards and approved plans.
  • Manage product ordering for the Produce Department, maintaining optimal inventory levels to support effective sales strategies.
  • Collaborate in determining order quantities and verifying costs while maintaining strong vendor relationships.
  • Inspect incoming products to ensure they meet quality and quantity standards, addressing any discrepancies in line with company protocols.
  • Implement effective inventory management practices to reduce unnecessary costs associated with surplus stock.
  • Ensure accurate invoice processing and resolve any billing discrepancies promptly.
  • Oversee the creation of clear informational signage and product descriptions to enhance customer understanding.
  • Establish and enforce stocking standards, ensuring high-quality products through proper rotation and cleanliness.
  • Assist in selecting product offerings as needed.
  • Conduct regular physical inventory checks to maintain accuracy.

Operational Management

  • Identify daily tasks and ensure their timely and accurate completion.
  • Manage departmental operations to meet sales targets and budgetary constraints, overseeing pricing strategies to achieve profit goals.
  • Develop work schedules for the produce team, effectively allocating labor to meet operational objectives and deliver excellent customer service.
  • Comply with all food safety and sanitation regulations.
  • Adhere to budgetary guidelines, seeking approval for expenditures beyond established limits.
  • Follow company protocols for loss prevention and safety management.
  • Maintain a clean and organized sales floor, storage areas, and coolers.
  • Utilize equipment according to manufacturer specifications.

Leadership and Development

  • Foster a positive work environment, motivating and guiding team members.
  • Lead recruitment efforts for the department, managing staffing levels effectively.
  • Oversee employee relations, including training, performance evaluations, and professional development.
  • Set clear expectations and provide constructive feedback to team members.
  • Engage in product promotions and community outreach initiatives.
  • Communicate the company's vision to both employees and customers.

Customer Engagement

  • Greet all customers warmly, adapting interactions to meet their needs and build lasting relationships.
  • Respond swiftly to customer inquiries, providing product information and recommendations.
  • Ensure all phone communications are handled professionally, meeting customer service standards across the department.
  • Maintain a welcoming and organized Produce Department.

Work Environment

This position operates within a retail food setting, interacting with a diverse clientele and may involve exposure to varying weather conditions.

Travel Requirements

  • Occasional travel may be necessary for this role.

Qualifications

  • Valid Food Handlers Permit.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in retail produce management.
  • At least two years of supervisory experience.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively while meeting deadlines.
  • Proven track record of driving sales growth.
  • Quick learner with strong decision-making skills.
