Job Overview

Summary/Objective:

This role is pivotal in overseeing the management of produce, ensuring food safety, maintaining quality standards, and driving sales performance. The Produce Manager will also focus on employee training, customer engagement, and overall department profitability.

Key Responsibilities:

Product Oversight:

  • Design and uphold appealing product displays that attract customer attention and influence purchasing behavior, ensuring compliance with company merchandising standards.
  • Manage the ordering process for all produce items, maintaining optimal inventory levels to support effective sales strategies.
  • Collaborate in determining order quantities and verifying costs, while nurturing strong relationships with vendors.
  • Inspect deliveries to confirm they meet quality and quantity standards, managing discrepancies in accordance with company policies.
  • Implement efficient inventory control measures to minimize costs associated with surplus stock.
  • Ensure accurate billing processes are followed, addressing any discrepancies promptly.
  • Oversee the creation of informative signage and product descriptions that enhance customer understanding.
  • Establish and uphold stocking standards to guarantee high-quality produce and proper rotation practices.
  • Assist in selecting product offerings as needed.
  • Conduct regular physical inventory checks to maintain accuracy.

Operational Management:

  • Identify daily tasks and ensure their timely and accurate completion.
  • Direct department operations to meet sales targets and budgetary goals, including pricing strategies to achieve desired profit margins.
  • Create and manage the work schedule for the produce team, optimizing labor allocation for operational efficiency and customer service excellence.
  • Comply with all food safety and sanitation regulations.
  • Adhere to budgetary constraints, seeking approval for any expenditures beyond established limits.
  • Implement loss prevention strategies to mitigate risks and enhance safety awareness.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment, ensuring easy access to inventory.
  • Utilize equipment according to manufacturer guidelines.

Leadership Development:

  • Foster a positive work environment by motivating and guiding team members.
  • Take charge of hiring and staffing for the department, actively seeking out qualified candidates.
  • Manage employee relations, including training, performance evaluations, and professional development.
  • Lead by example, providing clear expectations and constructive feedback.
  • Engage in promotional activities and community outreach.
  • Communicate the company's vision effectively to both employees and customers.

Customer Engagement:

  • Greet customers warmly and tailor interactions to meet their needs, building loyalty through personalized service.
  • Adapt quickly to customer inquiries, providing product information and facilitating sales.
  • Handle phone inquiries with professionalism, ensuring department-wide customer service standards are met.
  • Maintain a clean and inviting produce section for customers.

Work Environment:

Qualifications:

  • Valid Food Handlers Permit.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in retail produce management.
  • At least two years of supervisory experience.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines with a sense of urgency.
  • Proven track record of driving sales growth.
  • Quick learner with strong decision-making skills and a strategic outlook.
  • Adaptable to changing business needs.
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
