Job Title: Chair of Primary Care and Medicine

Job Summary:

The proposed Illinois College of Osteopathic Medicine seeks an accomplished physician, educator, and leader to serve as the founding Chair of the Department of Primary Care and Medicine. Reporting to the Senior Associate Dean of Clinical Affairs, the Chair will provide leadership and strategic direction for the Department, oversee and manage departmental operations and administration, recruit and oversee the evaluation, mentoring, and development of departmental faculty, and represent the Department's interests at the College and University levels.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Establish the Department's goals and objectives, manage faculty and staff, oversee the Department's contributions to the curriculum, develop internal and external partnerships, manage budgets and resources, and ensure compliance with relevant standards and regulations.
  • Advance osteopathic excellence through innovative education, research, and clinical partnerships across the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine curriculum.
  • Develop and implement longitudinal assessment plans from early clinical exposure through core rotations.
  • Promote the adoption of innovative, evidence-based instructional methods and technologies.
  • Support development of faculty teaching skills as medical educators and osteopathic role models.
  • Ensure programs meet evolving accreditation and regulatory requirements.

Requirements:

  • Terminal degree (DO/MD) in requisite area of expertise.
  • Board certified with clinical expertise in internal medicine, primary care or associated sub-specialties.
  • 10+ years academic medicine experience with progressive leadership.
  • Subject matter expertise relevant to department focus.
  • Experience in medical education with progressive leadership experience.
  • Subject matter expertise in evidence-based osteopathic practice.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with strategic planning, faculty development, curriculum design, and people management.
  • Record of effective departmental or program leadership at the graduate or medical education level.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects, budgets, and teams.
  • Scholarly portfolio and proven external funding record.
  • Demonstrated teaching excellence.
  • Excellent people management and consensus-building skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Creative problem-solving skills with a solutions-oriented mindset.
  • Passion for the osteopathic philosophy and promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Compensation and Benefits:

This opportunity is budgeted at $250,000-$300,000 base compensation. Additional compensation factors may impact total compensation.
