About the Role:

The Veterinary Technician position at Petco is a critical role in providing exceptional care to our patients and clients. As a Veterinary Technician, you will be responsible for assisting veterinarians with appointments, surgery, and other medical procedures, while also providing top-notch customer service to our clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist veterinarians with routine and emergency appointments, surgery, and other medical procedures.
  • Perform patient restraint, obtain and process laboratory samples, handle and dispense medications, and maintain electronic medical records.
  • Schedule appointments, communicate with clients, relay test results to doctors and clients, and manage accounts receivable.
  • Prepare patients for surgical and dental procedures, safely support induction and monitoring of anesthetized patients, and monitor patients during recovery.
  • Provide in-hospital treatments for sick patients, including giving injectable and oral medications, and safely walk canine patients when necessary.

Requirements:

  • College or college-equivalent education as required in becoming a Credentialed Veterinary Technician in the state in which the hospital is located.
  • At least 1 year of previous experience as a Veterinary Technician or working in a veterinary practice.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Compassionate and sympathetic, with the ability to maintain a professional attitude and demeanor during emotional and stressful situations.
  • Telephone and computer skills.
  • A team player willing to learn new techniques and treatments, offer creative ideas, and accept change.

Work Environment:

The majority of job duties are conducted in the Vetco Total Care full-service hospital. Position requires bending, kneeling, lifting (up to 30 pounds, as necessary), and standing for long periods of time. A large amount of time will be spent in direct contact with clients and their pets.
