MongoDB is seeking a highly skilled Senior Application Modernization Engineer to join our team and help organizations transform their legacy applications into cloud-native, scalable, and resilient systems.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to work with our customers and help them overcome the challenges of legacy application modernization. As a Senior Application Modernization Engineer, you will be responsible for evaluating, building, and applying tools to modernize applications, facilitating the usage of these tools across different project teams, identifying opportunities for tooling deployment, selecting potential 3rd party tools, contributing to the development of tooling prototypes, and helping to shape the product roadmap.

Key Responsibilities
  • Contribute to customer application modernization initiatives at any phase of the application lifecycle, from assessment and analysis to planning and design, data modeling, application code conversion, development, test, and build, integration and release configuration, production operations, application optimization, and best practices adoption.
  • Test drive MongoDB migration products to deliver on customer use cases and drive adoption of the product.
  • Deliver concise feedback to the rest of the development organization.
  • Work closely with Product and Engineering teams to influence the direction of the MongoDB product roadmap.
  • Personally execute well-defined, outcome-focused projects, POCs, MVPs, and everything in between.
  • Maintain a broad and deep technical understanding of the product line and the underlying technologies and protocols.
  • Work as part of a wider delivery team comprising consulting engineers from MongoDB Professional Services, project managers, and account teams.
  • Assist sales teams in evaluating opportunities with prospects and customers.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • 10+ years of experience as a field engineer or professional services consultant or full stack developer working directly with Enterprise clients.
  • Proficiency in Python and Java or C#, and some familiarity with common database access patterns and frameworks in one or more of these languages.
  • Expert-level knowledge about enterprise-scale software architectures, application development methodologies, and software deployment and operations.
  • Deep experience developing enterprise applications using relational databases, and employing SQL and stored procedures with Oracle, MS SQL Server, Sybase, and/or PostgreSQL databases.
  • Experience of using and developing with MongoDB and JSON-based Document models is highly desirable.
  • Problem-solving skills, including the ability to collaborate across disciplines and teams to come up with creative solutions to technical and business challenges.
  • Willingness to dive into a complex domain, ask the right questions, and bring new software tools and technologies to the table to solve customer problems.
  • Great communication skills (both spoken and written), within the team and in customer meetings.
  • Good understanding of Generative AI concepts, tools, and services. Any experience to build new applications/tools using Generative AI is a big plus.
  • A strong interest in how AI-supported toolchains can improve application development.
