Job Summary

The Senior Engineering Technician will provide technical support and assistance to assigned program areas, ensuring compliance with policies, procedures, and standards. This role involves reviewing and inspecting field work, conducting site visits, and communicating with stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review and inspect field work to ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Conduct site visits to verify project progress and identify potential issues.
  • Communicate with stakeholders, including citizens, public officials, and business representatives.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to field personnel and contractors.
  • Compile and maintain records and reports for assigned program areas.
Requirements
  • Ability to read and interpret site plans, road construction plans, property plats, utility plans, and sketches.
  • Considerable knowledge of highway construction and roadway maintenance procedures.
  • Ability to interpret VDOT Road and Bridge standards and specifications, VA Work Area Protection manual, Access Management and Land Use Permit Regulations, and Subdivision Street Requirements.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with internal and external customers.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in roadway construction and maintenance activities.
  • Experience working with MUTCD, Virginia Work Area Protection Manual, Road Design Manual, VDOT Road and Bridge Standards and Specifications, Access Management Regulations, and Land Use Manual.
  • A combination of training, experience, or education in Civil Engineering or a related field.
