Student Financial Services Advisor
The Student Financial Services Advisor (SFSA) plays a crucial role within the Financial Aid Department at Curry College, providing exceptional support regarding all facets of student financial issues. This includes guidance on financial aid, payment options, and student account inquiries for both current and prospective students and their families across various academic programs. The SFSA delivers service through multiple channels including in-person interactions, phone calls, virtual meetings, and written communication. This position is pivotal in assisting with the financial aid process, from application to award, and in managing student account balances and refund processes. Additionally, the SFSA will contribute to the documentation of procedures and the creation of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) to enhance service delivery. This role is integral to supporting the College's enrollment and retention goals by ensuring accurate dissemination of financial aid and student account information.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct outreach to students and families to follow up on required financial aid and loan documentation through various communication methods.
- Manage the daily operations of printing and mailing financial aid award letters for current and prospective students.
- Oversee the FAFSA renewal initiative for all enrolled students, ensuring engagement across all student demographics.
- Provide outstanding customer service by addressing inquiries through phone, email, and in-person interactions.
- Collaborate closely with Financial Aid and Student Accounts teams to align with the College's mission and objectives.
- Participate in College events that require representation from the Financial Aid and Student Financial Services departments.
1. Customer Service Excellence:
- Ensure compliance with confidentiality regulations while serving as the primary contact for financial advice for students, families, and colleagues.
- Clarify financial aid policies, payment procedures, and account balances to customers.
- Process payments and assist with customer inquiries at the service counter.
- Manage communication through general office mailboxes and respond to voicemails in a timely manner.
- Support students and families in completing forms for refunds, financial aid applications, and payment plans.
- Act as the first point of contact for financial inquiries and coordinate with other departments as necessary.
- Initiate calls to resolve outstanding financial aid documentation or account balances.
- Assist with departmental mailings and communications.
- Provide assistance at College events, including extended hours during peak periods.
- Participate in staffing rotations for evening office hours as needed.
- Oversee the processes for printing and mailing award letters.
- Manage communications for missing documentation according to established timelines.
- Collaborate with other advisors to promote FAFSA renewals through various outreach strategies.
- Support operational processes related to financial aid and loans as required.
- Maintain student financial aid records and assist with exit interviews for withdrawing students.
- Handle incoming mail and ensure proper documentation is matched to student records.
- Assist with audit preparations as directed by leadership.
- Engage in initiatives that support the Office of Student Financial Services.
- Uphold confidentiality and professional standards in all interactions.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.
- Minimum of one year of experience in higher education financial services.
- Associate degree required; bachelor's degree preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills, with the ability to effectively assist students and families.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Capacity to manage multiple tasks and adapt to changing priorities.
- Team-oriented with strong communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and familiar with office technology.
- Availability to work evenings and weekends as necessary.
Hourly rate between $20.00 and $23.00.
