Position Overview:

This specialized 30-bed intensive care unit is dedicated to delivering care to patients with intricate medical requirements necessitating advanced critical care interventions. The unit is supported by a team of intensivists, registered nurses, and health unit coordinators, with additional assistance from advanced practice nurses.

New graduates must possess either a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or an Associate's Degree from an accredited nursing program with a minimum overall GPA of 3.0.

Core Responsibilities:

Utilizing the Quality Caring Model, the nurse is expected to demonstrate proficient performance and apply the nursing process to effectively plan and manage the care of routine patients. This includes providing education to patients and their families, as well as planning for continuity of care. The nurse will communicate essential patient and family information to the healthcare team and identify any variances from established patient goals. The role involves providing and coordinating interdisciplinary patient care through the nursing process.

This job description, along with performance evaluations and competency assessments, applies to all Registered Nurses who have successfully met the performance standards for the role. The employee is expected to support the Mission of Trinity Health.

Licensure and Certification Requirements:

Graduation from an accredited nursing program is essential; a basic professional nursing degree (BSN or MSN) is preferred.

Current licensure as a Registered Nurse by the Maryland State Board of Nursing or a Compact State is required.

BLS certification is mandatory; additional Life Support training may be required based on unit specifications.

Professional specialty certifications may be necessary in accordance with departmental standards or specific role requirements.

  • HRPC: Inpatient OB certification for exam-eligible RNs

For RNs in Labor and Delivery, High Risk Perinatal Center, and Float Pool E: NCC EFM Certification is required. For novice and experienced RNs newly hired, certification must be obtained within twelve months of employment.

Essential Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

Current knowledge of nursing practices and skills is required. Proficiency in computer and audiovisual applications, including Internet, email, and word processing is necessary. The ability to retrieve and interpret data is crucial. Effective communication skills in reading, writing, and speaking English are essential. The candidate must possess effective eye-hand coordination, analytical skills, and the ability to synthesize information quickly. Strong problem-solving abilities, organizational skills, and the capacity to work collaboratively with individuals and groups are also important.

Working Conditions:

Physical Requirements: The role requires the ability to lift patients and patient care equipment weighing up to 35 pounds. The nurse must be capable of pushing, pulling, and moving patients and equipment, as well as bending and kneeling as necessary. Proficiency in utilizing a computer for extended periods is also required.

Visual Acuity: Close visual acuity is necessary for tasks such as preparing and analyzing data, transcribing, viewing computer screens, extensive reading, and conducting visual inspections.

Auditory Acuity: The nurse must possess sufficient auditory acuity to identify alarms in a noisy environment.

Environmental Conditions: The role involves exposure to the typical hazards associated with a hospital setting.

Reporting Structure:

The position reports to a manager or director.
