About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Direct Support Professional to join our team at People Inc. As a Direct Support Professional, you will play a vital role in supporting individuals with developmental disabilities and other special needs in their daily lives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Respect and maintain the confidentiality of the individuals served, demonstrating a positive and caring attitude towards them, their families, and staff.
  • Plan, coordinate, and implement meaningful activities on a daily basis, promoting independence, inclusion, and productivity in areas of daily living, personal care needs, and person-centered activities.
  • Ensure the health and safety of each individual receiving services, completing all necessary tasks and following proper procedures.
  • Transport individuals safely, following approved procedures when approved to drive.
  • Perform daily site cleaning, food preparation, and laundry as needed.
  • In a Site-Based or Recreational Respite setting, assist individuals in social/recreational activities and implement monthly activity calendars, as well as assist with homework assignments as needed.
  • Complete daily documentation and other paperwork in accordance with OPWDD and agency standards, promptly and accurately as applicable.
  • Attend and participate in general staff meetings, in-service training, and other pertinent agency meetings/trainings.
  • Comply with agency-mandated in-service and online trainings.
  • Be flexible to work assignments as needed at the agency within shift and/or other availability, including being assigned a residential site to work partially or in full based on the status of day program service delivery.
  • Perform CPR and Strategies for Crisis Intervention and Prevention (SCIP-R) as required.
  • Record time worked at the start and end of each shift and work the minimum number of accepted hours hired for.
  • Administer medications and follow proper procedures as required.
  • Comply with all agency policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • 18 years of age.
  • High School Diploma/GED preferred.
  • Driver's License that meets agency policy preferred, unless otherwise specified by program.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to read, write, comprehend plans, and documentation.
  • Basic computer skills necessary for communication and documentation.
  • Ability to meet physical requirements of the position, including standing, walking, sitting, bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, and climbing.
  • Lifting requirement of 35 lbs.
  • Ability to support individuals with repositioning, lifting, and transferring as required by their person-centered plan.
  • Physical agility and ability to react to emergency situations, including Strategies for Crisis Intervention and Prevention (SCIP-R) certification as per regulatory guidelines.
  • Certification in CPR.
  • Part-time Direct Support Professionals are required to work a minimum of 16 hours per week and not more than 29 hours per week unless otherwise specified by program.
